Structures of Mars
First a small gallery of some Structures:

Structures on Mars:

My concept of Mars has massive structures of the ancient past still standing and often in use. As time marches toward the time period of my wargame setting (the late nineteenth century) the structures became every smaller and less sophisticated as the Martians lost their technological knowledge. Their architecture features a concrete like material and was often formed into curvacious structures. But in more recent times the majority of the newer buildings on Mars are made of adobe bricks or even a mud plaster technique like Earth's 'wattle and daub'.

This is a model of a recently built structure. The squareness of the walls betray its wattle and daub construction. This was made from a block of bead board type expanded styrene. The domes are from cheep plastic champagne glasses and the windows and door as cast for resin as explained in casting in resin page.

This is a more ancient Martian bunker. Though thousands of years old it is still fully functional. Built after the run away greenhouse effect that affect the Martian climate had started it is built partially below the grounds surface. This structure was made from a plastic bubble that contained a toy (use else where in my collection).

Again from a toy bubble, the domes are wooden knobs or plugs sold in craft stores.

Doors, stutters and view ports were made from thin cardboard cut from a breakfast cereal box.

This is a structure from a middle period, no longer able to fabricate sealing doors the Martians reverted to a primitive door made from wooden boards. Though newer then the bunker above this one was made from a lower strength material and has not stood the test of time as well.

Bubble Buildings :
Structures of alien worlds can be made from a wide variety of starting materials. It is important to keep an eye open to possible source matter before you take out the trash. Here we explore the use of the thin clear plastic bubbles that are vacuum-formed for the display cards for items for sale in your local stores.
