The point of divergence, for me, dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. A pro-emigration organization, The Adelsverein, was attempting to establish a German colony in the Republic of Texas.
What if Friedrich Ernst had arrived in Texas in 1811, some twenty years earlier then in real history?
And what if the German immigration craze of the 1840s occurred instead in the 1820s and 1830s.
Arriving during the rule of the Spanish viceroy and later the independent
Mexican republic's rule of Texas, the Germans would be ideally
placed to influence the upcoming rebellion of Texans against Mexico.

The rise of German Texas (F.Z.T.) thwarts the ambitions of the Yanks to expand westward after the Louisiana purchase of 1803. After 1836 independence of the F.Z.T. and the resulting control of the Santa Fe road (trail), the Yanks, claims on the remains of the Louisiana purchase are challenged by the empowered native tribes. The rebellion in Texas emboldens other Europeans to consider claims in the New World. Spain reclaims California as New Spain. More about New Spain
Also, Russia negotiate with the U.S.A. for control of the Oregon country as the Russian Northwest.
