Here you see the Bruker OPAG-22 Fourier Transform Infrared Spectrometer (FTIR) or (FTS). The large barrel is the Infrared (IR) collecting telescope. This type of instrument collects all frequencies of light at once, and then uses light properties of forming self interference patterns to analyze the separate frequencies. In principle, one could study the full electromagnetic spectrum this way. In practice, one is limited to a single band by the optics and detector.
