While well positioned to dominate the subcontinent after the great war against Napoleon I, The seizers during the war are mostly undone with the peace settlement. Then with the humiliation of Navarino in 1827, the partial abandonment of the British holdings with the withdrawal the British naval support and protection. The other powers in India use this time, and the techniques of divide and conquer so well pioneered by the British East India Company, to grab large portions of the subcontinent. The greatest gains are made by France and Portugal, but the Netherlands and Denmark also secure expanded holdings. The other powers efforts are mostly rebuffed due to their lack of understanding of the cultural subtlety needed to manipulate the local Rajas.
